Update regarding Plano ISD Athletics
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to share an important update regarding our athletic programs. Beginning next school year, Plano ISD will be eliminating JV 2 teams in Volleyball and Boys and Girls Basketball. This decision was not made lightly but is necessary due to gym space limitations, a declining number of JV 2 teams in our area, and challenges in filling rosters. Additionally, scheduling games has become increasingly difficult, as very few schools continue to field JV 2 teams.
We understand this change may impact some student-athletes, and we appreciate the commitment they have shown to their teams. While this transition brings change, it also presents an exciting opportunity for athletes to explore other sports, develop new skills, and stay actively involved in athletics. Our coaching staffs are committed to helping athletes find new opportunities that best fit their abilities and interests.
If your child is affected by this change, we encourage you to connect with their coaching staff or campus athletic department to discuss available options. Thank you for your continued support of Plano ISD Athletics—we look forward to seeing our students thrive in new opportunities!

What does this mean for Plano Volleyball:
The decision to eliminate JV 2 teams in volleyball, as mentioned in the email, means that there will be fewer roster spots available for athletes, creating more competition for the remaining spots. For Plano volleyball, this change will require the girls to put in even more effort during practices, workouts, and their overall preparation leading up to tryouts. With only a limited number of spots on the Varsity and JV, every player will need to showcase their skills, commitment, and potential in order to secure a place on one of the teams.
This situation emphasizes the importance of hard work, consistency, and determination. It's a chance for each player to focus on improving their skills, both individually and as part of a team. While this change may feel challenging, it's also an opportunity for athletes to push themselves to be the best they can be and to develop the kind of skills that will make them competitive, whether within volleyball or even in other sports they may want to explore.
Ultimately, this shift should serve as motivation for the girls to reach their full potential, knowing that the opportunities to play at the school level will be more competitive. This is about encouraging growth and pushing athletes to strive for excellence. Coaches will be there to guide and support them through this process, but the onus is on the athletes to take the initiative and rise to the challenge.
